Getting to the Ipogeo dei Cristallini

The entrance is at Via dei Cristallini 133, in the Rione Sanità, north of the historic walls. The metro is the simplest way in. Line 1 stops at Museo and Materdei, and Line 2 stops at Cavour. Museo and Cavour are the two stations to aim for. Check the route on a map before you leave.

Plan your arrival around your slot. The Ipogeo opens Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 15:00, and a booked time window helps, so read the details on our Ipogeo dei Cristallini tickets page first. Children under 8 cannot enter, and the entrance is a small staircase inside a historic palazzo.

From the airport: Alibus and taxi

Naples Capodichino airport is code NAP.

The Alibus connects the airport with Napoli Centrale at Piazza Garibaldi and with the port. From Piazza Garibaldi, take metro Line 2 to Cavour. This is the usual route for the Ipogeo. Timetables and fares change, so check the current Alibus times on the day you travel.

A taxi works well if you arrive with luggage. The city's fixed fares under the 2024 tariff decision were EUR 21 from the airport to Napoli Centrale, EUR 24 to Molo Beverello and EUR 28.50 to Via Partenope, per vehicle. Ask for the fixed fare when the ride starts, and check that it still applies. A minivan adds EUR 5.

Airport closure in November 2026. The airport operator has announced a full closure of Naples airport in November 2026 for runway work. If you plan to fly in or out around that month, check with your airline and the airport operator, and do not count on flights to NAP in that period.

By train, ferry and metro

Napoli Centrale, Molo Beverello and the stations near the Sanità.

Napoli Centrale / Piazza Garibaldi

Trains arrive at Napoli Centrale. The metro station underneath lets you ride Line 2 to Cavour. From Cavour you continue on foot into the Sanità.

Molo Beverello

Fast ferries to Capri leave from Molo Beverello. The crossing takes about 50 minutes, and times differ by season. For the island itself, see our guide to the Naples to Capri ferry. Allow time to get back to the city before you head to a booked slot.

Museo and Materdei

Museo on Line 1 sits next to the National Archaeological Museum. Materdei is also on Line 1. Both stations lead into the area, but the walk to Via dei Cristallini depends on the route you pick, so check the map for your own start.

Cavour

Cavour is on Line 2. It is the stop to use when you come from Piazza Garibaldi.

City fares in Naples

Prices valid from 1 October 2026.

TicketPrice
Single ride, bus or funicularEUR 1.40
Single ride, metro or city railEUR 1.60
Integrated city time ticketEUR 1.90
Integrated day ticketEUR 5.70

Alibus is a separate service, so do not assume a city ticket includes it. For most visitors who ride the metro two or three times in a day, single tickets are enough. If you add buses and funiculars, compare them with the integrated day ticket.

The lift at Ponte della Sanità

A free link between the bridge and the neighbourhood.

The city transport company runs a lift from the Ponte della Sanità at Via Santa Teresa degli Scalzi down to the neighbourhood, near the church of San Vincenzo. It is free. It runs weekdays 07:00 to 21:30 and holidays 07:30 to 14:00 (2025 timetable). Check that it is running on the day you go, and have a stair route in mind in case it is not. Our Rione Sanità guide shows what to see once you are down.

Car hire and parking

Use a car for day trips, not for the old town.

Driving in the historic centre is not worth the stress. The old town has restricted traffic zones (ZTL), and a garage booking alone does not guarantee that you may enter. Check the current rules for any street before you drive. A rental car makes sense only for trips outside the city, as in our day trips from Naples overview.

There is a parking offer at Vico Arena della Sanità 10. Ask about price and availability before you rely on it. Do not leave luggage in a parked car, not even hidden in the boot. On metro platforms and in crowded places, keep your valuables in view and do not carry them all in one bag.

Getting to the Ipogeo dei Cristallini: frequently asked questions

Which metro station is best for the Ipogeo dei Cristallini?

Museo on Line 1 and Cavour on Line 2 are the two stations to use. Materdei on Line 1 also serves the area. Check a map for the walk from the station you pick.

How do I get from Naples airport to the Sanità?

Take the Alibus to Piazza Garibaldi, then metro Line 2 to Cavour. A taxi is simpler with luggage. Remember the announced airport closure in November 2026.

Is there a lift to the Sanità?

Yes, from the Ponte della Sanità at Via Santa Teresa degli Scalzi. It is free, with weekday times of 07:00 to 21:30 and holiday times of 07:30 to 14:00 (2025 timetable). Confirm it is running before you rely on it.
