Weather through the year

Naples has hot summers and mild, wetter winters. August is the hottest month in the table, with an average daily high of 31.3 °C. November has the most rain in the table below, with 115.5 mm on average. Spring and early autumn sit between these extremes, so April, June and early autumn are comfortable choices for walking in the old town.

The underground sites are useful in any season. The Ipogeo opens Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 15:00, and warm, comfortable clothes are recommended, so bring a jacket even in summer. Start with our Ipogeo dei Cristallini tickets if you want to fit a slot around the weather.

For most visitors, April, June and the weeks around September offer the best balance of warmth and comfort for walking. If you want the least rain, aim for June or August, and expect the heat. This is our suggestion based on the table.

Festivals and events

Dates that return each year.

San Gennaro. The saint's feast days fall on the Saturday before the first Sunday of May, on 19 September and on 16 December. These are the traditional dates, so confirm the times and the procession route for the year before you plan around them. In 2026 the relic procession took place on 2 May, from the Duomo through Spaccanapoli to Santa Chiara.

Maggio dei Monumenti. The city's cultural month, with exhibitions, guided visits and special openings. Check the programme for the year you travel.

Crowds. Holidays, Easter, Christmas and weekends can be busier in the old town, for example around San Gregorio Armeno. Book your slots early for those dates, and read our historic centre guide for the streets involved.

Plan around the airport

One date to check.

The airport operator has announced a full closure of Naples airport in November 2026 for runway work. If you want to visit around that month, check flights with your airline and the operator.
