Ipogeo dei Cristallini: tickets and visit at a glance
The Ipogeo dei Cristallini is a Hellenistic burial complex cut into the tuff under the Palazzo di Donato, at Via dei Cristallini 133 in the Rione Sanità. It has four separate tomb complexes, each with chambers on top of each other, and painted walls with stone couches. It opened to visitors on 24 June 2022.
You visit with a guide or an audio guide. Regular visiting hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 15:00, and booking online is recommended because the number of visitors per day is limited to protect the paintings. The ticket is for the Ipogeo only. The catacombs, the Fontanelle Cemetery and Naples Underground are separate sites with their own entrances and tickets.
This guide covers the tickets and booking, the history of the tombs and the neighbourhood around them. Children under 8 cannot enter.

Our picks: Ipogeo visits and nearby sights
The guided visit is the best fit if you want the frescoes explained, and the audio guide is the shorter, cheaper option. The Rione Sanità walk adds the neighbourhood around the entrance, and the three-site tour pairs the tombs with two other underground places. The Archaeological Museum and Naples Underground are separate destinations, without Ipogeo entry.

A guided visit, an audio guide visit and a walk through the neighbourhood that includes the Ipogeo entry. The nearby catacombs and Naples Underground have their own tickets.
What is inside the Ipogeo
Four tomb complexes labelled A to D, painted with illusionistic architecture and decoration.
In each complex the upper chamber served as an antechamber for burial rites, and the actual burial chamber lies below it. The walls carry coloured paintings, and the chambers have stone benches. One painted detail is a polychrome head of Medusa.
The wall paintings are the reason visitor numbers are capped. Wear warm, comfortable clothes and take a jacket and a hat, as the operator recommends. Access is through a small stairway inside a historic palazzo, so do not count on step-free entry. If you need support, contact the operator before you book.
Guided visits run in Italian, English, French and Spanish. The audio guide comes in 15 languages, including Italian, English and German.
